Astrid's Work - Marie Rambert |

Marie Rambert Bust 1971Proving that Richard Buckle was still in Astrid’s life, it is fairly certain that in 1971 he organised a bronze bust to be created of Marie Rambert. of The Ballet Rambert. Astrid produced an excellent bronze that was donated to the National Portrait Gallery, and at the same time established a life long friendship with her. From then on there was rarely a new ballet at which she did not accompany Marie Rambert. No doubt their friendship was enhanced by the fact that both came from the same part of Europe. There is also a copy of this bust in the new York Library Dance Division. Astrid’s association with the Ballet Rambert also led to a request from the Company for a sculpture for presentation to Marie Rambert on the occasion of the Company’s 50th anniversary in 1976. It represents the figures of both Marie Rambert and Fredrick Ashton from the 1926 production of “A Tragedy of Fashion” After Marie Rambert’s death it was presented to the Theatre Museum in London and it remains there under catalogue no. S.471 – 1985 It is not know at this time whether it is a bronze or resin casting, and I am awaiting confirmation on this point from the museum..
