Astrid's Work - Warwick Castle

The Missing Warwick Castle Bear of 1979

There are many mysteries surrounding the whereabouts of Astrid’s work, but perhaps the biggest of them is that of the Warwick Castle bear.

There is ample evidence to indicate that Astrid modelled and had cast a seven foot high bronze bear for Warwick Castle. This appears to have vanished and all efforts to obtain information about this bear have fallen on deaf ears.

I never saw this, but there was certainly a 12” high maquette and from this we know that four bronzes were cast. All are in private collections including one that went to Australia along with the Scribe.

Another was also cast in resin of which this is a photograph.

There are also reports that there are other bears of Astrid’s but these are yet to be confirmed.

Should anyone know what happened to the Warwick Castle bear I would be delighted to hear of it.

It has been a poignant joy to create this website - joyful because my partner and I so loved Astrid, but poignant because remembering her reminds us of her loss. Yet her exuberance, innocence, and love of life is captured for all time in her work.

We hope you have enjoyed visiting this site, and we would invite anyone who knew Astrid or her work to share anectdotes of her life, and to allow us the pleasure of including more photos of her work on this site (with links to you and acknowledgemenst if you wish).
