Astrid's Work - Winston Churchill |

Churchill Bronze 1971 commissioned by James GardnerThe then Sultan of Brunei had been a great fan of Sir Winston Churchill and Gardner was commissioned to organise a memorial in Brunei to celebrate this fact. This may be a little potted history, but I have not been able to discover exactly what circumstances let to this commission. Significant for Astrid was the commissioning of an eight foot high bronze of Sir Winston that was sent to Brunei as the centre piece of the show. Trying to find out exactly what has happened to it has once again drawn a blank. Letters to the present Sultans office have not been answered, and it is difficult to see whom else to approach. These photographs were taken at the foundry just prior to the work being despatched. |
